Park Warriors will gather at Lot #9 at Wisconsin Point on Thursday, July 16th at 5:00-5:30 pm to clean up the Point. Warm temps have drawn high use at the Point the last two weekends, and this group aims to help by volunteering their time to tidy up the beach.

Point users don’t always abide by City requests to “Pack Out What You Pack In”, leaving trash and broken glass along what should be a pristine beach.

The Warriors noted concern for the property on Face Book and scheduled an impromptu clean-up for Thursday. Bags and gloves will be provided. The Warriors, approximately 20 volunteer citizens, have spent time this spring and summer giving attention to the park system, conducting park clean-up and painting projects.

“We’re organizing a Park Warrior clean up at Wisconsin Point for this Thursday July 16 at 5pm! Ron Thompson and I have Buckets, grippers, plastic gloves, trash bags! So if you want to help meet us at the center turn out at about 5-5:30 and we’ll organize and go from there. The more people we have the more we can get done. Here’s your chance to do something instead of complaining!! See you there!!”  Reprinted from Joanie Peters post on the “You Know You’re From Superior When…” Facebook page.

Explore Superior applauds this group because they believe in getting to work solving a problem rather than complaining about it on social media.

According to Mary Morgan, of Superior Parks & Rec, “trash receptacles are deliberately absent at the Point due to historic theft, vandalism and arson of the receptacles.” Unfortunately, such vandalism has made trash receptacles more of liability than a benefit on Wisconsin Point.

Morgan also stated that, “the Parks & Recreation Department is encouraging all citizens to Pack Out What They Pack In at Wisconsin Point.
