New-look Tiger volleyball team opens 2016 season tonight

In 2015, the Northwestern High School volleyball team finished second in the Heart O’ North Conference.

This year, the Tigers are looking to replicate their performance, but they’ll have to do it without the four All-Conference players who led them.

“We are pretty inexperienced at the varsity level,” said Charlie Hessel, NHS head coach.

Among the seniors who graduated from last year’s team are Alyssa Frick, Lexi Janigo, Cheyenne Johnson and Daisy Mack. Johnson, who led Northwestern with 207 kills, was a first-team HON All-Conference selection. Frick and Janigo — who combined for 734 digs and 95 ace serves — were both named to the second team, and Mack was honorable mention.

Key players returning for the Tigers include seniors Sara Lahti and Madison Trautt. They had 92 and 48 kills, respectively, for Northwestern last season.
