UWS kicked off it’s ice hockey season at the end of October. Both the men and women’s teams are now one month into their season and averaging about the same amount of wins as losses.
Overall, the men’s team is 3 – 4 – 2 (3 wins, 4 losses, and 2 ties) while the women’s team is at 5 – 3 – 3. The most impressive game of the season came on Nov. 6 at Finlandia University in Hancock, Mich. where the women’s ice hockey team beat the Lions 10-0. Sophomore goaltender Skye Brown made 23 saves in the match. In this season, Brown has made 169 saves while allowing only 11 goals made by the opposing teams.
The men’s most recent home game was Wednesday against Hamlin University. The guys did not play their best and lost 3-1. The game, played at Wessman Arena the night before Thanksgiving, saw a much smaller than usual crowd. On average this season 424 people have cheered on the men’s team at home, but Wednesday’s game only drew in 150.
Both teams seasons will continue into February, with many more opportunities to catch them play in Superior. The next men’s home game is Dec. 11 at 7 p.m., and the next women’s home game in Dec. 4 at 7 p.m.
