Perhaps you’ve taken the bumpy ride down Wisconsin Point Road a time or two…you know the one, where you transition back and forth between washboard surfaces, to patches of pavement, back to washboard, and perhaps topped off by a series of potholes?

Road Closed Aug. 25th-27th

This road has long been a frustration for local residents wanting to take advantage of our hidden treasure. Well folks, we have good news for you! Next week, Monarch Paving will begin working on the road using a process known as Cold In-place Recycling, or CIR.

Weather permitting, Wisconsin Point Road will be closed Tuesday, August 25th through Thursday, August 27th so that CIR can begin on the asphalt on portions of the road.

According to Todd Janigo, director of Public Works, “The CIR process mills and picks up 3 inches of existing asphalt/gravel, crushes and screens the material, injects foamed asphalt, places the mixture with a paver and then re-compacts the material.”

This process will ready the road for City crews to complete a final overlay two weeks after the material has time to set. Of course, timing of this process is somewhat dependent on weather conditions, so let’s all pray for good weather so that this job can begin as scheduled.

According to the City, they will be “treating the road differently by area and surface condition,” but the improvements are slated to occur over the “vast majority of the road length.”

At some point in early to mid-September, City crews will return, and will use a flag person so the road will remain open during the final paving. If it should rain early in the week of August 24th, the 3-day road closure could be delayed, as would the final repaving.
