Explore Superior Hosts Third Mayoral Forum

This past Thursday, March 23rd, mayoral candidates Brent Fennessey and Jim Paine faced off one last time prior to the April 4th election. In a two and one half hour forum that occasionally rose to debate status, the two talked of their hopes for the future of Superior, and how they differed in their approach.

Video of this forum is shown at the bottom of this article.

Fennessey, a manager with Otis Magie Insurance Agency, takes a decidely business approach, while Paine leans heavily on his public sector experiences as both a county commissioner and as a program director for the Duluth Regional Care Center.

Both candidates are Superior natives with deep roots in Superior. They agree on many topics, but separated themselves in their approach to solving the housing crisis in Superior, how to deal with the city budget, and their views on how best to manage the community forest.

The video shown below is rather long, but we encourage you to set aside the time to watch the entire forum. You can pause the video and come back to it if need be. After watching these two candidates answering questions and reacting to each other’s views, you will come away with a good handle on what kind of mayor they might become.

This video deals with long-term issues such as development, housing, and Better City Superior. A prior forum held on March 15 that dealt with short-term issues can be viewed by clicking HERE.
