A ribbon cutting ceremony this afternoon kicked off the opening of yet another Kwik Trip in Superior. Located in the 600 block of Hammond Avenue, on the site that was formerly home to Pizza Hut and a self-serve car wash, the new operation was teaming with employees, elected officials, chamber ambassadors, and even a few customers who ducked in and around the assembled dignitaries.Kwik Trip store | Explore Superior

Several City and County elected officials, including Mayor Bruce Hagen, City Councilor Warren Bender, and County Supervisor Sam Pomush, along with David Minor, President of the Superior/Douglas County Chamber of Commerce, and a contingent of Chamber Ambassadors were in attendance to commemorate the opening of the fifth new Kwik Trip store in Superior in the past year.

Don Zietlow, CEO of Kwik Trip, was on hand for the occasion and made an impassioned speech expressing his and company’s happiness at opening yet another store in Superior. Zietlow, a lively octogenarian with an engaging smile, proudly shared numerous facts about Kwik Trip, not the least of which is that his company sells 50 million bananas a year, and a quarter million donuts a month! He shared that they have their own milk processing facility and that they are committed to selling milk that was “in the cow yesterday and in your home the next.” He was surrounded by an enthusiastic core of employees, store managers and corporate team members, one of whom was his grandson. The event began with all of the Kwik Trip employees reciting the company’s mission statement.

The Hammond Avenue store opened at 5 a.m. on Thursday, November 12th.

Mayor Hagen and chamber president Minor took turns at the microphone expressing their happiness that Kwik Trip continues to expand in Superior, complimenting the company and Zietlow for their commitment to the community. Minor specifically reminded those present that before the first Kwik Trip even opened in Superior, the company donated $10,000 towards the construction of the NBC Spartan Sports Complex located on the campus of Superior High School.
