Northland Program Students Make Wreaths

Holiday Wreaths Made as Gifts for Their Families

By Kasie Smith

Students from the Superior School’s Northland Program traveled to the School Forest Friday, December 2nd. However, the purpose for the expedition was not only a fun field trip to the outdoors.

The Northland students had previously taken orders for holiday wreaths and swags, and the purpose of their expedition was to collect the materials needed to fulfill their orders. They were also able to make wreaths for their own families in the process.

According to Northland student Brooklyn Stalls, she and her classmates made a total of 64 wreaths and swags during their outing. The finished products were decorated with artificial snow, holly berries and pine cones. Brooklyn provided us with the photos included in the gallery below.

The Northland Program

Northland is a program for students for whom smaller class sizes and alternate educational techniques may be beneficial. The program features smaller classes, collaborative learning, and alternative settings. The intent is to find a better match for the learning needs of these students.

Students desiring a non-traditional educational program must apply for entrance into the Northland Program. Applicants are reviewed by a screening committee prior to acceptance.

This program is available to forty full-time students at risk of not graduating (twenty 9th/10th grade students and twenty 11th /12th grade students).
