What follows is his response, beginning with a quote from State Senator Janet Bewley:

Statement by Jim Paine

“I am honored to announce that our campaign has received the overwhelming support of the Superior community.”

“In addition to our first place finish in the February primary, we have received the endorsement of eight labor councils and locals, and the support of more than two dozen elected and formerly elected community leaders from Superior and Douglas County. Every member of this list has worked tirelessly to build a better future for all of us.”

“The list includes State Assemblyman Nick Milroy, a majority of City Councilors including the City Council President and Vice-President, and nearly two thirds of the County Board, and perhaps most significantly, Former County Board Supervisor and City Councillor Lew Martin, whose service to our community spans decades.”

“Our community is ready for a new direction. Our community is ready for new ideas. Our community requires bold leadership backed by a clear vision and solid experience.”

“I am bringing new ideas to City government.”

“I know we can move families from rentals to single family homes by helping them acquire the capital for buying a home or removing the barriers to restoring some of our most historic houses.”

“I know that we can increase wages in this community by partnering with contractors, developers, and organized labor to bring training, skilled jobs, and living wages and benefits to our city’s workforce.”

“I know that we can design and build a thriving downtown retail and entertainment district that will be the envy of the Twin Ports and the talk of the midwest by helping developers connect to our resources like a working waterfront, accessible retail space, and the Duluth population.”

“With more than 7 years of experience in local government, I am ready to get to work on day one. This community knows this because they see how hard I have worked in public office and how we have gotten real results for Veterans, working families, senior citizens, and local businesses.”

“This community is ready for energy and passion in our Mayor’s office. Our community has seen the work that I have done at Cathedral Church, Superior Rotary, the Lake Superior Dragon Boat Festival, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, the Douglas County Historical Society, and UW-Superior.”

“I have earned the trust of the the vast majority of the leadership of Superior and Douglas County and I am humbled by their support. I am working hard everyday to earn the trust of voters on April 4th and as your next Mayor.”
