School District Tests Water at Schools

By Gary Niemi

waterIn August, with the assistance of Superior Water, Light & Power Company, we took and tested first-draw water samples at all of our in-town schools (Bryant, Cooper, Great Lakes, Northern Lights, Superior Middle School and Superior High School). These water samples were tested for lead in accordance with WI DNR testing standards. These tests detected no lead in any of the water samples that were collected.

In September, we took and tested first-draw water samples at our two country schools (Four Corners and Lake Superior) as part of our normal WI DNR required testing program, since both of these schools use well water. Five samples were taken at each school following normal testing protocols.

The average concentration for lead at Four Corners was 1.93 parts per billion with Lake Superior’s average at 2.05 parts per billion. Both of these results were well below the DNR and EPA safe drinking water level of 15 parts per billion for lead.

As a result of this testing we know the water in our schools is safe from lead.
