TPS to Stage “Love Letters” at UWS

Mayors Jim Paine and Emily Larson will team up for one special performance of the A.R. Gurney play “Love Letters” on Thursday, June 8th at the Holden Fine Arts Center’s Manion Theater on the UW-Superior campus. Ticket sales and donations received will benefit non-profit theater and arts company Twin Ports Stage in their effort to create an arts & event center in Superior.

The company – whose members are some of the area’s best known from both sides of the bridge – has been working for about three years to find a suitable space in Superior and raise funds for renovation. TPS’ Director, Victoria Main, came up with the idea of having the Mayors perform together in the reader’s theater piece. Recognizing it might be a long shot, she reached out anyway and was delighted with the responses.

Mayor Paine agreed to participate, saying “I have had a passion for the theater since childhood and I am thrilled to support Twin Ports Stage and cannot wait to perform with Mayor Emily Larson.”

Mayor Larson also came on board quickly. She said “The ability to support the arts, together with my colleague across the bridge, made this an easy ‘yes’ for me. Mayor Paine and I will have fun with this and I think the audience will too. Thank you to Twin Ports Stage for this great opportunity!”

“I feel like we’re incredibly lucky to have leaders who are willing to do something like this as a team. Mayors Larson and Paine are stepping outside expectations to support the downtown arts center project and it’s really an inspiring example for our community,” said Ms. Main.

The performance is at 7 pm, followed by a Mayors’ Reception of wine & hors d’oeuvres in the Holden lobby. The Holden Fine Arts Center is located at 1805 Catlin Avenue in Superior. Click below to see a video commercial for the show.
