Toys for Tots Collected In Cooperation with Superior Fire Department
By Daniel Fanning
University of Wisconsin-Superior Yellowjacket Athletics collected toys for the Superior Fire Department’s annual Toys for Tots program at all of the home games on December 11 and 12. Fans attending Yellowjacket Athletic hockey and basketball contests were asked and encouraged to bring new, unopened toys to the games to be given to children in Superior and Douglas County area for the holiday season.
The donated items for the Toys for Tots program were then distributed on Dec. 19 and 20 at the Superior Fire Department headquarters in conjunction with the Salvation Army in Superior.
Yellowjacket coaches dropping off the toys for distribution were baseball head coach and interim athletic director Nick Bursik, women’s hockey head coach Dan Laughlin and women’s basketball head coach Don Mulhern.
Yellowjacket Athletics staff member Jon Garver was proud to see the community, students and coaches all get involved with this special project. “We need to remember how fortunate we are and help those that could use some assistance during this time of the year. It’s a wonderful program to be involved with in the community.”
