SUPERIOR, Wis.– The Superior School Board approved of a mini–grant for suicide prevention and mental health awareness at Superior High School Monday night. The mini–grant, which totals $1,000, comes from the Department of Public Instruction. Tiffany Mattson, a Superior High School Insight Teacher, submitted the grant request in hopes of preventing suicide deaths at her high school.
“She sees first hand the kids that are struggling, kids that might be depressed— are having difficulty with academics or behavior, or their home life, and what she wants to do is bring more opportunities, more support to those kids so they can see themselves as valued and be successful,” said Superior School District Administrator Janna Stevens.
Stevens said it’s important for teachers to take notice of students who show signs of suicidal thoughts.
