From the category of “the things you learn while looking for something else” comes the following post. While searching the City of Superior website for an address, I stumbled upon this little gem from years gone by.

Did you know that Superior was designated as a “City of Kind Words” in 2007? Victoria Vincent presented former Mayor Dave Ross with a plaque naming Superior a “City of Kind Words” on June 15th, 2007. According to the city website, Superior was only the second city given this award. ES couldn’t find out anything else about Ms. Vincent, or her award…perhaps our readers can help out by pointing us in the right direction?

City of Kind Words BookBeing named for this award recognized Superior’s dedication “to empowering people through kindness.” Upon receiving the award, Mayor Ross said, “We seem to have built up a culture of criticism…any time we can promote kindness and esteem in others is good for the entire society.”
City of Kind WordsThe award is named after a book of the same name written by Vincent that tells the tale of “Daba,” an orphan boy, who strikes out on a journey in search of just a few “kind words” to fill the emptiness he feels inside.

Along the road he meets a rejected dog, “Pooch,” who becomes the perfect companion to find “The City of Kind Words”. The book won the International Angel Award in 2007, and is written for the 9-12 year old age range. The book is available on Amazon by following this LINK.

Couldn’t we all do with some kind words everyday? Here’s your daily affirmation!
