UW-Superior welcomes nine new faculty

UW-Superior welcomed nine new full-time assistant professors and lecturers to campus this fall. The group represents four departments: the Department of Education, Music, Natural Sciences, and Human Behavior, Justice & Diversity. Each new faculty member brings not only a wealth of expertise and teaching experience to the campus, but is committed to the liberal arts mission of UW-Superior, engaging variously in active teaching and learning and helping students prepare for their professional futures.

Mark Grover is a senior lecturer in the Natural Sciences Department. He earned his Ph.D. in biology from the University of Virginia and has worked for state wildlife agencies in Utah and Arizona as an aquatic ecologist responsible for managing and monitoring populations and habitats of rare species of fish and amphibians. His areas of expertise include ecology and conservation biology.

Susan Larson Kidd is an assistant professor of special education in the Education Department. She holds a doctorate in educational administration/special education and education specialist degree from The College of William and Mary. Her areas of expertise are in applied behavioral analysis, special education law, autism, biomedical research and neuroscience. Her research and writing areas are currently in social neuroscience, autism, and sensory integration dysfunction.

Kris McConnell is an assistant professor of biology in the Natural Sciences Department. He earned a B.S. in biology from Southeast Missouri State University, and a Ph.D. in biomolecular chemistry from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. His professional interests include molecular genetics and developmental biology.

Chantal Norrgard is assistant professor of First Nations and Indigenous Studies. She earned her B.A. in History from the University of Minnesota, Duluth and her Ph.D. in history from the University of Minnesota. She is a member of the Human Behavior, Justice, and Diversity Department and coordinator for the First Nations Studies Program.

Lynn O’Brien is an assistant professor in the Professional School Counseling Program. She is currently completing her dissertation on Professional School Counselor professional development and will have earned her B.A., M.S., and doctoral degree from Minnesota State University, Mankato. In addition to professional development, her areas of interest include school-based play therapy, equity and social justice in the school setting, and meeting the mental health needs of students.

David Potter, assistant professor/coordinator of music education in the Department of Music, holds degrees in music education from the Eastman School of Music, the Crane School of Music, and Michigan State University. His areas of research
