9th Annual Overnight Sleep-Out to Benefit the Homeless

By Tom Wondolkowski

Night Without a Home | Explore Superior“A Night without a Home” is a local sleep-out benefit held for the benefit of the homeless of Superior and Douglas County. Concerned supporters of this event will spend an entire night outdoors, collecting donations for the homeless, and in some cases meeting homeless individuals who sometimes stop by to visit during the event.

From personal experience, I can honestly say that this is the most meaningful thing I have ever done in my life and once you start interacting with some of the folks who are on the street you begin to understand how difficult it must be to survive.

The event will take place in Center City Park at the corner of Belknap Street and Tower Avenue next to the Superior Public Library beginning at noon, Saturday, October 17th, and will continue through noon, Sunday, October 18th.

Donations of money will be distributed to Harbor House Crisis Shelters, Solid Rock, CASDA, Human Development Center, Salvation Army, and the St. Vincent de Paul Society. Checks should be written to Faith United Methodist Church c/o “A Night Without A Home”.

The homeless people in our community have many needs. Public support and donations are greatly appreciated and will be collected on site, including:

  • Winter coats
  • Mittens
  • Boots
  • Blankets
  • Sleeping bags
  • Food
  • Furniture – no mattresses please
