Have you ever wondered who is behind the wheel of the Big Yellow School Bus when it drives past you with children on board? Your child’s bus driver knows your child, and you know them.

You may have even received a phone call at the beginning of the year from your child’s driver telling you when the bus would be coming in the morning, or when the bus would be there on a cold winter’s day. Relationships like this are very important to parents and our school district.

Some district drivers have been behind the wheel since 1990, but in more recent years, the District has found that it has become more and more difficult to maintain a full roster of drivers; in part because of the improved economy or  retirements or medical retirements, or resignations.

The School District of Superior maintains its own fleet of buses, thirty-three licensed and trained drivers, and contracts with the City of Superior for two full-time maintenance mechanics. At the present time, the Superior School District is in need of more drivers, and those qualified are encouraged to apply.

The Department is staffed by a full-time director and full-time secretary.  Did you know that each driver puts their job on the line every time they get behind their own vehicle, 24-7? This is a very important job for the safety of our children, and for the streets of our city. Each driver is licensed by the State Department of Motor Vehicle, and any violation on a personal vehicles counts against their Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). Drivers have to pass a Department of Transportation physical exam every two years or more often if needed.
