Interim Dean Receives Permanent Position

Harry-Anderson

Harry Anderson, UWS Dean of Students

Harry Anderson, a veteran of providing student support at the university level, has been named the new Dean of Students at the University of Wisconsin-Superior.

Anderson has been serving as the Interim Dean of Students since the summer of 2014 and has been an active member of the campus community since 2008 where he has consistently demonstrated leadership and success in his various roles.

UW-Superior Chancellor Renée Wachter was pleased to see Anderson’s dedicated service to campus would be continuing in this important role.  “Harry’s experience in oversight of the Yellowjacket Union, campus recreation, and housing combined with his passion and commitment to student involvement, development and partnerships across campus will serve the university well as we continue to execute the strategic plan and grow.”

“I’m very excited about this opportunity,” said Anderson. “I’m looking forward to continuing the great work that has been accomplished here at UW-Superior. It’s very rewarding to be in a position to continue to positively impact the student experience here at UW-Superior, especially as an alumnus.”

The Superior native holds a bachelor’s degree in biology from UW-Superior and a master’s in leadership at the University of Mary, in Bismarck, North Dakota.

Prior to his new position he was responsible for providing the primary leadership and oversight for the programming and student employment coordinated by the units within Campus Recreation. Anderson also directly oversaw the intramural program and the facility based needs of the Marcovich Wellness Center.

In addition to influencing the student experience, Anderson remains committed to one thing; student success.  His advice for the students to be successful?  “Have fun, laugh, and live life to the fullest.”

Anderson started to make a difference in the community years ago.  “I was fortunate enough to find my passion of making a positive impact on people’s lives while working for the American Red Cross. Making a positive impact on someone’s life is what drew me to higher education and specifically student affairs.”

When Anderson is not in the office he continues to pursue his passions.  “I’ve run marathons, completed half-ironman’s; I was a competitive cyclist for over 15 years. I like to stay active, especially outdoors.”

Anderson is a lifelong Twin Ports resident and appreciates the support he has at home.  “None of this would be possible without the support of my wife and family.”

The University of Wisconsin-Superior is a public liberal arts institution of 2,650 students in the Duluth-Superior, MN-WI metro area.

Founded in 1893 as a teacher’s college, UW-Superior now offers more than 30 majors, select graduate programs, and competitive Division III athletics programs, as well as research and scholarship that support the community and region.
