Great Lakes Students Join to Help a Classmate
Students, staff and families at Great Lakes Elementary School have come together to support one of their own.
Fourth grade teacher Kim Willie’s son, Caden, has been diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma. Caden spent weeks in hospitals, has had three surgeries, has been to Children’s Hospital in Minneapolis twice, and most recently, started chemotherapy.
Caden will have several months of chemotherapy ahead of him.
During their Holiday Sing-A-Long on December 15, Great Lakes students will auction off baskets they create in their classrooms. Proceeds will help support the Willie Family.
Students are also collecting dimes. Each time a student brings in a dime, they get a strip of paper to create a classroom chain. Their goal is to have each classroom start their chain at their door, then connect with the classroom next to them, eventually connecting all classrooms and meeting in the cafeteria, the center of the school.
Caden is a student at Superior High School. Caden’s father, Ed, is also a teacher in the Superior School District.
