On November 22nd, from 12:00-2:00 pm, the Douglas County Historical Society (DCHS) brings back a familiar face for another visit.  Superior Author Robert “Bob” Abrahamson will host a discussion about the storm of 1905 that was nicknamed “The Mataafa Blow”.

The 1905 storm was an integral part of building the legacy of the “Gales of November” for Lake Superior, and was responsible for sinking and wrecking many ships on Lake Superior and causing many sailors to lose their lives under those chilling waves.

In October, Mr. Abrahamson was at DCHS to introduce his new book “Luck of the Draw-The Mataafa Story” with a book reading and autograph session.  This event was attended by many interested in the history of the Mataafa and the discussion was very lively and demonstrated the desire of local history buffs to learn more on this topic.  This time out Bob is expanding beyond the story of just one vessel to examine this event from a more holistic approach.
