Team Play Fosters Leadership
Good morning Superior. We are in search of people who are involved in youth sports as mentors, coaches, or on the sidelines in the Superior area. It would be great to have ongoing contributions to the Explore Superior website about youth hockey, Little League, basketball, soccer, and any other sports for that matter.
I was fortunate to have had the opportunity to play team sports as a child, and what I learned about being on a team has served me well throughout my life. These days, with our children spending more and more time in front of computer screens, and less time “playing” we must be concerned about their health and how they learn to socialize. I think the most important benefit of sports is learning how to become part of something bigger than yourself. Rather sitting in front of a flickering screen in a darkened room, better to work up a sweat and build life-long friendships.
Your participation could be simply posting game schedules on our calendar, maybe team photos and action shots, or if you’re so inclined, you could become a cub sports reporter of youth sports. Youth athletics below the high school level are seldom reported in the media, and this would be a good way of recognizing the efforts and dedication that is required of our young people who decide to participate. Not to mention, publicizing youth sports may encourage more kids to “play ball!”
