Mr. Roger Hanson of Big Lake, Minnesota, has taken up residence on Barker’s Island to build the World’s Tallest Ice Sculpture.  The City of Superior, with assistance from the Superior Tourism Development Fund, has contracted with Mr. Hanson to build the Lake Superior Ice Project, a wall of ice approximately 90’ wide by 70’ tall, ready for viewing in February 2015.

Mr. Hanson’s man-made attraction caught the attention of The Today Show when he built it on his property in Big Lake, Minnesota, in 2011.  Mr. Hanson, a software developer, has engineered a process to create the sculpture during December and January.

Mayor Hagen and the City Council believe the Lake Superior Ice Project will be a significant tourist attraction and an economic engine for the business community this winter.
