Karl Asp Wins K-5 Grand Prize!

Karl Asp, a 5th grader at Northern Lights Elementary School, has won Grand Prize in his division in a National Art contest sponsored by the U.S. Coast Guard, the Sea Research Foundation (SRF), and the North American Marine Protection Association (NAMEPA).
SRF, Inc., operates Mystic Aquarium and the Ocean Exploration Center in Mystic, CT; and, in partnership with National Geographic, JASON Learning. Their mission is to inspire people to care for and protect our ocean environment through conservation, education, and research. JASON Learning provides multimedia experiences in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) for K-12 students, and corresponding professional development for educators in a wide variety of formal and informal education environments.
NAMEPA is a marine industry-led initiative which engages maritime businesses, government and the public to “Save our Seas” by promoting sound environmental practices. NAMEPA operates as a nongovernmental organization committed to preserving the marine environment through educating seafarers, port communities and students about the need, and strategies, for protecting this important global resource.
