On Wednesday, Sept. 23rd, the University of Wisconsin-Superior and Kafkas University, of Kars, Turkey, will enter will into a new international partnership with the signing of an articulation agreement between the two schools. This event will take place tomorrow at 10:45 a.m. in the UWS Multicultural Center, Old Main 232.

A delegation from Kafkas University will be on the UW-Superior campus tomorrow, Wednesday, Sept. 22 and will join Chancellor Renée Wachter and other university officials for the official signing ceremony. The delegation will also tour campus and meet with faculty, staff and community leaders.

This partnership is a result of the global recognition of UW-Superior’s Math and Computer Science Department. Dr. Hami Oz, Head of the Department of Computer Engineering at Kafkas University, contacted UW-Superior professor Dr. Chad Scott, who is chair of the Math & Computer Science Department, about potential interest in the Comprehensive Computer Science Major, which led to on-going disucssions and an agreement between the programs and schools.

Qualifying Kafkas University students will enter UW-Superior as junior status, after a year of English Language Immersion, to complete their remaining two years of a bachelor’s degree program in Computer Science. Given the Turkish Higher Education System, students signing up this year would likely arrive on UW-Superior campus in 2018 or 2019.
