University of Wisconsin-Superior students, under the instruction of Dr. Lorena Rios Mendoza will be teaming up with Alliance for the Great Lakes Adopt-A-Beach program on Saturday, September 19, 2015 for a public event on Wisconsin Point Beach.

Saturday from 9 a.m. until noon, two UW-Superior classes are inviting campus and the Superior community to join them in a clean-up and completing a beach health assessment at Wisconsin Point Beach 3. The event is part of the International Coastal Cleanup program.  They will be weighing all debris and overall plastic debris.

About 35 to 40 students from the university will be taking part in the program. It is a class in the chemistry department, “Our Chemical Environment” Chem-100 a general education class. Biology 100 students will also be taking part. The student groups will be assisting at several locations along the beach stretching from Wisconsin Point canal entry and along the shoreline.

Volunteers around the Great Lakes including Minnesota & Wisconsin and around the world will help to clean up shorelines and waterways while collecting valuable data. Want to participate? Find an event near you at www.greatlakesadopt.org.
