Polling Places Open on April 5th
In about a week and a half, Superior residents will have the opportunity to cast their votes in the Presidential primary, for City Council, and for the Superior School District Referendum. In the event that you cannot get to the polls that day, you can vote absentee and there is still time to get your ballot and make your choices.
To request an absentee ballot, please print and complete the Absentee Ballot Request form:
Be advised however, that you MUST already be registered to request an absentee ballot
Return Completed Requests to:
Superior City Clerk
1316 N. 14th St., Rm 200
Superior, WI 54880
If you are on the Permanent Absentee list, nothing has changed. You will continue to receive your ballot well in advance, and have probably already received it. If so, don’t forget to fill it out, get someone to sign the outside of the envelope, and mail it right away.
Request for Ballot by Mail
If you are unable to get to the poll site on election day, and are registered to vote, you may request an absentee ballot by completing the Absentee Ballot Request form (above) or by submitting a handwritten letter, which provides the same information required on the ballot request form. In either case, the request must be signed by the voter. If more than one person at the same address is requesting the Absentee Ballot, each person must sign the request.
However, if you are going to request a ballot by mail, be advised that time is short. Your request will have to get to the City Clerk’s office no later than March 31st. At this late date, you may be better off going to City Hall and picking up your absentee ballot and filing it at the same time.
Request for Ballot by E-Mail
You may also request an absentee ballot by emailing the City Clerk’s office. You still need to be a registered voter to request an absentee ballot. In the e-mail you must provide the following information:
- Your name;
- Your address;
- The address to mail the ballot (if different than your home address);
- The elections you want the ballot for.
If you are eligible, you may request the ballot be sent to you for every election. If you are going to be out of town for a certain election, they will need to know which election you want the absentee ballot for.
Email your ballot request to: voter@ci.superior.wi.us
Absentee ballot requests by mail MUST be received by the City Clerk’s office no later than 5:00 p.m. the Thursday before the election…or in the case of the upcoming election, next Thursday, March 31st. That is by State law, the last day the Clerk can mail an Absentee Ballot.
Requesting a Ballot in Person
If requesting a ballot in person at the City Clerk’s office, the deadline is 5:00 p.m. the Friday before the Election. Yes, that is indeed April Fool’s Day this year. Given the hi-jinks that we’ve seen throughout the Presidential primaries, some will consider that to be appropriate.
The new law prohibits absentee voting, and voter registration, the Saturday, Sunday, or Monday before an election. If your address has changed since you last voted, you will need to provide proof of residence. If your Drivers License has your correct address on it, that is all you will need.
Hospitalized voters may appoint an agent to pick up their ballot from the City Clerk’s office on Election Day.
