Scouts to Learn about Transportation at UWS

The University of Wisconsin-Superior Transportation and Logistics Management Program will be hosting a Transportation Day for Girl Scout Brownies and Juniors on Thursday, June 25.
The program will encourage girls to learn more about the industry and be the future Transportation Leaders of America.
The girls will learn about the five modes of transportation: air, water, rail, road and pipeline and will earn a transportation fun patch for taking part in the program. The day’s event will include interacting with women transportation leaders, transportation-related activities, a tour of Halvor Lines semi-truck, a train ride with lunch on board and a tour of the William A. Irvin.
UW-Superior professor and director of the Transportation & Logistics Research Center Dr. Richard Stewart will welcome the group and also give the girls a safety briefing. Kari Rihm, President & CEO of Rihm Kenworth will also address the group at the start of the day.
The agenda for the day on June 25:
- 8:30 – 9:00am Registration at UW-Superior Yellowjacket Union
- 9:00 – 9:15am Introduction – Safety Briefing
- Dr. Richard Stewart, Professor, Transportation & Logistics, UW-Superior
- 9:15 – 9:30am Girls: Be the Future Transportation Leaders of America
- Kari Rihm, President & CEO, Rihm Kenworth
- 9:30 – 10:00am Morning snack and divide into groups – Chartwell’s
- 10:00 – 11:45pm Transportation Activities (3 activities to rotate through)
- Safety briefing before each activity
- 10:00 – 11:45pm Halvor Lines for Truck Tours @ UW-Superior
- 11:45pm Load bus to train Depot (Limit of 50 – 45 girls, 5 adults)
- 12:30 – 2:00pm Train ride to Lester River – box lunch on train
- 2:10 – 2:20pm Load bus and head to William A. Irvin
- 2:30 – 3:30pm Tour William A. Irvin (Group 1)
- 2:45 – 3:45pm Tour William A. Irvin (Group 2)
- 3:45 – 4:00pm Load bus and head back to campus – Afternoon snack
- 4:00 – 4:15pm Gather in the YU Great Room back at UW-Superior

Cost is $10 per girl if payment received by June 24, and $15 after deadline. That includes 2 fun patches, snacks, lunch, truck and ship tours and a train ride.
