Labor Agreement To Benefit Local Building Trades

By Doug Dalager

On March 2nd, the Superior Federation of Labor (SFL) hosted a presentation by Superior School District officials explaining the proposed referendum to be voted on April 5th. At the presentation, Janna Stevens, District Administrator, along with other officials from the district, explained why Cooper Elementary School needed to be replaced, why major portions of the fifty year old Superior High School needs to be replaced, rebuilt and refurbished, and how funds will be used to replace roofs at two schools, and pavement surfaces at two others.

The labor representatives also were given information that explained why district staff and the School Board believe these projects need to be undertaken, how much the referendum will cost home owners, and what they hope to accomplish with the proposed improvements.

Subsequent to the district presentation to the Federation of Labor, the group voted to support the referendum. In their resolution, the group spotlighted the Act 10 budget cuts and how they’ve affected many school districts across Wisconsin, especially in Superior. They believe that this has adversely affected school facilities and staff alike.

The resolution was filed by SFL Corresponding Secretary Warren Bender, who is also the Superior City Councilor for the 3rd District, and is shown below.
