Sheppard & Hensrud Honored at Campus Reception
By Daniel Fanning
Faith Hensrud, Provost of the University of Wisconsin-Superior and Robin Shepard, Executive Director of the North Central Cooperative Extension Association, each received a beautifully carved award plaque in the shape of Lake Superior at a reception on campus on December 3, 2015.
The Reserve offers congratulations and appreciation to both Robin Sheppard with UW-Extension and Faith Hensrud with UW-Superior who shared a vision and worked for the designation of the Lake Superior National Estuarine Research Reserve. They were honored with the Reserve’s Outstanding Achievement Award.
Shepard said he was proud to see to the program grow from the beginning. “What made it special for me is seeing that this is really been a magnet for many great things. The people here in your region understand the importance of what a National Estuarine Research Reserve means to the world’s largest freshwater system and that is really what this is all about. You are like no others in that respect, you lead in that.”
Shepard added, “You also lead because you are so part of the fabric of the people in this region and who they are. Thank you for this honor and allowing me to be part of it.”
Provost Faith Hensrud also thanked the Lake Superior NERR for the award and was appreciative of the honor as well. Remarks were also shared by Dr. Patrick Robinson, Co-Director of Extension’s Environmental Resources Center and Dr. Erika Washburn, Manager of the Reserve.
In attendance at the award ceremony and program were all the Reserve staff, members of the Reserve Advisory Board and campus staff and faculty.
- The Lake Superior NERR was designated in October 2010. A Designation Ceremony was held October 26, 2010 at UW-Superior. It is one of four research centers at UW-Superior.
