Presented by UWS’s World Student Association
By Daniel Fanning
The community is invited to enjoy entertainment and a family style dining experience featuring dishes from around the world at the 19th annual Cultural Night on Saturday, Nov. 14, on the University of Wisconsin-Superior campus.
Cultural Night has been a tradition at UW-Superior since 1996. Each year, international and American students work hand in hand to bring together people from the community and the campus to enjoy dinner and entertainment and embrace their different cultures.
The theme for this year’s Cultural Night presented by the World Student Association is “Discovering Our Roots” and celebrates the heritage of the 190 international students from over 40 different countries that are currently attending UW-Superior.
The total international student population is up more than 25% from a year ago and a record number of countries are represented this year on campus.
This year’s Cultural Night features a family style dinner, including dishes from Russia, North Africa, India and Mexico and will be served at 5:30 p.m. in the Yellowjacket Union Great Room.
The dinner is followed by a show from 7 to 9 p.m. in Thorpe Langley Auditorium in Old Main. The show will feature performances from international and American students as well as UW-Superior faculty, including singing, dancing, a fashion show featuring traditional clothing from 17 different cultures and a flag ceremony.
Tickets for students are $10.00 for dinner and the show or $8.00 for just the show. For adults, the cost is $15.00 for dinner and the show or $10.00 for just the show. Children’s tickets are $5.00 for dinner and the show (under 5 years old).
Tickets can be purchased in advance from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. through Friday, Nov. 13 in the Yellowjacket Union, 1605 Catlin Ave. Tickets can also be purchased at the Office of International Programs in 337 Old Main or reserved by calling at (715)-394-8138.
