SUPERIOR, Wis.-The inaugural Superior Day of Giving event held at the University of Wisconsin-Superior Foundation on Wednesday, April 1 was a huge success thanks to so many supporters of the university.

Over 190 alumni, parents, friends, faculty, staff and students donated a total of $93,890, with most gifts being received online.  Gifts received supported 25 different UW-Superior programs including student scholarships, faculty development, academic programs, athletics, and the annual Superior Fund.

According to Jeanne Thompson, vice chancellor of university advancement at UW-Superior, the show of support was amazing.  “It was an awe-inspiring day.  So many of our generous alumni, faculty, staff, students, parents, and friends “jumped on board” with this 24-hour fundraising event which was primarily promoted through social media and e-newsletters.  Once a donor gave online, they received an “I gave” graphic in the hopes they would cut and paste it on their Facebook page or another social media site to help us spread the word.”  Thompson added, “Even after our participation and matching challenge grant goals were met, our alumni and friends kept giving.  We know the university has made a tremendous impact on so many lives, and to see this level of support and commitment to give back is heartwarming.”

What happened on Superior Day of Giving that was so great?
