Superior was Spooktacular on Oct 17, with was live music and vendors around the pumpkin patch that took over the Banks ave. and 13th st. parking lot. There was a parade and a costume 5k in the morning, a .01k i the afternoon, and the creepy bar crawl for adults at night.

“I think its been wonderful,” said Carolyn Nelson, a member of the marketing committee for the Business Improvement District. “Being that it was our vist annual event, we didn’t know how it would go. We had 400 kids at the pumpkin patch, and the parade was a huge success, the street was packed with people.”

The .01k, which is equal to 32.8 feet, had about 50 competitors. It cost $15 to enter, and all the money went to A Night Without A Home.

The runners were dressed in costumes and ran in character. Due to the short distance, the host said to run in slow motion so photographs could be taken.

Ann Charbonneau of Superior won the race. “This is the first time I’ve won, I’ve been training really hard.” Charbonneau was dressed up with a friend as the “Blues Sisters.”

After the sunset, bars all along Tower ave were celebrating Spootacular Superior with a creepy bar crawl. The bartenders were dressed in their costumes and offered specials to adults bouncing from bar to bar.

Nelson said of this first annual event “It exceeded our expectations. Next year will be even better.”
