Continuing Education Program Begins May 14th

There are four different generations represented in today’s workforce, each with a core set of values and characteristics that differ from each other. Getting these diverse traits to coexist for the good of a business or organization can be a daunting task.

Continuing Education at UWSThe University of Wisconsin-Superior’s Center for Continuing Education will be exploring this topic with Generation Workplace Strategies. This workshop will be held Thursday, May 14, from 9 a.m. to noon in the Yellowjacket Union, room 204, on the campus of UW-Superior. Cost of the event is $75 or $69 if enrolled in the program. This workshop offers .3 Continuing Education Units (CEU) for three contact hours.

Managers, whether they are younger or older, need to know about generational issues in the workplace in order to be effective at what they do.

Generation Workplace Strategies will provide tips and strategies to help understand, motivate, and succeed with each generation and leave participants with thought-provoking ideas that may change how you not only view your co-workers, but also yourself. Discussion topics will include exploring and framing each generation’s impact, developing insights into each generation’s core characteristics and workplace styles, differentiating between what characteristics are generational versus societal, and discovering workplace harmony.

This workshop will be led by Brad Gingras, chief operating officer of CEP, Inc., based in Ashland, Wis. “As a gen-Xer, I found that not only was I ‘in the middle’ of the workforce age-wise, but also generationally,” said Gingras. “As my career developed, my co-workers were baby boomers and older generation Xers, however, I supervised and educated millennials. I witnessed numerous conversations about how this generation did this and that generation did that and recognized the lack of understanding between each generation. As an educator and public speaker, I feel I am well-positioned to provide the understanding that could benefit employees and supervisors, which would therefore positively impact the workplace.”
