To a Healthier Douglas County

2000

The Healthier Douglas County Coalition (HDCC) is a community-led initiative formed in 2011 by Douglas County residents and health professionals concerned with the county’s startling rates of obesity and physical inactivity. The mission of the HDCC is to support, connect and advocate for community members to improve the health of Superior and Douglas County residents. Since its inception, the coalition has worked to fulfill its mission by increasing resident engagement and fostering interagency collaboration in Superior and Douglas County.

Over the last two years, The Healthier Douglas County Coalition (HDCC) hosted two AmeriCorps*VISTAs who increased organizational capacity and initiated community engagement programs. This programming has reached school-aged children, young adults, employees and families throughout Superior. With support of Community Opportunity Funds of $43,000, Healthier Douglas County Coalition (HDCC) will hire a part-time Coalition Coordinator to sustain their capacity and expand its reach throughout Douglas County.

Agencies represented on the Healthier Douglas County Coalition (HDCC) include Northwest Wisconsin Community Services Agency (NWCSA), Superior School District, University of Wisconsin-Extension, American Lung Association (ALA) in Wisconsin, Douglas County Health and Human Services, YMCA-Superior, University of Wisconsin-Superior and Superior Childhood Literacy Alliance (SCLA).
