Dear 2015-16 Kindergarten Families,

Kindergarten is just around the corner at Northern Lights Elementary. We are excited to introduce your child and you to the wonderful world of kindergarten!.

Round-Up dates are Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, April 22, 23 and 24. When you registered your child for kindergarten, you received a letter with your assigned Round-Up session. A brief description of the sessions are below:

Morning Sessions

  8:30-9:00     Round-Up check-in, nurse visits begin
  9:00-9:20     Teacher Slideshow/kindergarten students go to classroom
  9:20-9:40     Presentation on Positive Behavior Interventions and Support (PBIS) and attendance by
Principal Robyn Deshayes & Assistant Principal Mary Anderson-Petroske
  9:40-9:45     Mrs. Ledin, counselor
  9:45-9:55     Mrs. Hopkins – Director of Food Service – breakfast/lunch program
  9:55-10:10   Mrs. Bauer – Director of Health and Safety
10:10-10:15   PTA/Diversity Team
10:15-10:20   Tour of Northern Lights (pick up children and take tour, optional)

No-Lights-RoundupThe beginning of kindergarten may be quite an adjustment for your child.  It will be a “getting to know you” period for all of us.  Kindergarten Round-Up is the first step on this journey. Your attendance is so important for a positive start to the school-year.  It is such an exciting time!

As parents, you are entrusting us with one of the greatest responsibilities, teaching your child.  Please do not hesitate to call us with any questions you may have.  We are looking forward to giving your child the best start on his/her educational journey.

  • Calendar & Math Routines

**All kindergarten students have physical education three times a week and art and music once a week.

Getting Ready for Kindergarten

  • Start bedtime routines at least two weeks before the first day of school.
  • READ, READ, READ with your child.
  • Play board games and card games.
  • Practice following directions and listening to adults.
  • Practice using scissors, pencils, crayons, and glue.
  • Practice saying your child’s first and last name.
  • Take some time to explain what kindergarten will look like.

Northern Lights Kindergarten Supply List 2015-2016

  • Back-To-School4-boxes of regular sized crayons (24 pk. Crayola)
  • 1-4 oz. bottle of Elmers School Glue (white)
  • 2-packs of washable markers (Crayola)
  • 1-4 pack of Expo low odor dry erase markers
  • 4-plastic folders (1 with clasps)
  • Gym shoes to be kept at school-must be Velcro
  • Backpack (no wheeled backpacks)
  • Kleenex (large box to share)
  • 8-large glue sticks
  • 1-Roll of Paper Towel or 1 pkg. of napkins
  • 1-Crayola  washable watercolor paint set
  • 1-pair of Fiskars scissors, blunt edge
  • 1-bottle of hand sanitizer (12 oz. or larger with pump top)
  •  2-large pink erasers
  •  1-box of pencils (12)
  •  1-box Ziploc bags (gallon size)

    Wish List: shaving cream, paper plates, paper cups, disinfecting wipes, q-tips, cotton balls
