Improv comedy group performs every Thursday in parks around Superior.

Improvised theater, where every line is made up on the spot, has a place in Superior with the group “Something Superior.” The comedy troop fills our parks with laughs as young thespians entertain. This Thursday I stopped by the Hammond Ave park to see what it was all about, and I was not disappointed.

The group is directed by Cheri Tesarek, who keeps the actors on track and the audience engaged. They began Thursday’s show with a game called “yes, and” where you say a sentence and the next person ads to the story with the preface “yes, and.” In this game, a story of a frog price ended with eating the princesses heart which was fried in peanut butter.

Later they played a game called “Countdown” where a nice scene gets really crazy really fast when the performers have to redo the scene but in less and less time. The theme for the scene was ‘singing in the rain.’ It went on to have two men singing in the rain, but had a police officer called on them when neighbors complained about the noise. One actor was arrested, the other acted tried to free him by tasering the officer. They then did the whole scene again, but in 15 seconds, and backwards. Basically, it was just all screaming and everyone was laughing.

Improv theater has never failed to produce hilarious lines, like so from Thursdays performance: “I’m knitting a scarf…for your brother…because he is my favorite…MAYBE YOU’D BE MY FAVORITE IF YOU FLUSHED THE TOILET ONCE IN A WHILE.” something superior

You can catch these shows for yourself. They have three shows left for the summer. July 23rd- Webster Park, July 30th- Hammond Park, and August 6th Billings Park Pavilion.

The group has been around for three years and their mission is “to share the joy of improvisational comedy with others.”
