(Superior, WI) – Arrest made for the violent armed robbery at the Super America located at 1405 Broadway Street in Superior last Tuesday.

On Tuesday morning, November 4th, 2014, at about 4:55 a.m., officers from the Superior Police Department responded to a silent alarm at the Broadway and Hammond Super America store located at 1405 Broadway Street. The clerk reported that a suspect, armed with a knife, jumped over the counter and assaulted her while she had been helping him with a purchase. During the struggle the cash register drawer closed and the suspect fled without getting any money. This violent assault was captured on the store’s video surveillance system.

Marcus Lee St. Claire, 21 years of age, of Duluth, MN was identified as the suspect from the surveillance footage. He was arrested by the Duluth Police Department on an unrelated incident and is currently lodged at the St. Louis County Jail on a probation hold. An arrest warrant is being sought for Armed Robbery, and Recklessly Endangering Safety, from the Douglas County District Attorney’s Office. It does not appear that this incident is related to the other armed robberies that have occurred in Superior in the recent past.

During the attack a female store clerk was violently punched in the head numerous times. From the video it appears that St. Claire was punching the clerk with the same hand he was carrying a knife in. Fortunately the clerk did not sustain any life threatening injuries. The clerk did not require medical attention but did sustain some injuries from this incident.

Armed Robbery is a Class C Felony in the State of Wisconsin. Upon conviction this charge is punishable by a fine up to one hundred thousand dollars ($100,000.00) and/or imprisonment up to 40 years. Recklessly Endangering Safety is a Class F Felony and upon conviction is punishable by a fine up to twenty five thousand dollars ($25,000.00) and/or imprisonment up to 12 years and six months.

This is an ongoing investigation so no further details will be released at this time.

These are preliminary allegations and all suspects are presumed innocent by law pending future court proceedings.
